Numbing drops are applied at the time of surgery so that you should not have any pain. Some patients may experience a pressure sensation and slight discomfort during the procedure. After surgery you may experience mild irritation for a day or two. Usually over-the-counter pain relievers and artificial tears will take care of any discomfort.
Although we cannot guarantee 20/20 vision, 97% of our patients do see 20/20; of that group, 63% see better than 20/20. Please keep in mind that the goal of refractive surgery is to reduce or eliminate your dependence on corrective lenses. A majority of our patients achieve that goal and are very happy with their vision.
As with any surgical procedure, there are possible risks. Serious complications and infections related to laser vision correction are extremely rare. The possibility of a serious complication or infection related to LASIK and PRK is 1% or less, as documented in clinical studies. Our LASIK and PRK procedures are performed in our fully-approved and accredited sterile operating room, and all patients start antibiotics prior to surgery to prevent infection. Following your surgeon’s instructions and keeping follow-up visits are crucial to achieving your desired vision.
You will be in our operating room for approximately 30 minutes. The majority of this time is used to get you into position and prepped for surgery. The surgery itself takes about 7-10 minutes per eye, and both eyes will be treated on the same day.
Most patients take off from work 1 or 2 days when having LASIK. Patients that have PRK will have more down time and will need to take about 4 or 5 days to recover.
We routinely perform dry eye testing on all patients prior to surgery to determine if you currently suffer from dry eyes. Dry eyes are common as we age and are more prevalent in patients who wear contact lenses. You will experience temporary dryness after surgery. This dryness will be noticeable for the first few weeks after surgery and will decrease as your eyes heal. You will be asked to use artificial tears for several weeks after surgery and will taper these drops over time.
LASIK is not the same everywhere! We offer our patients years of experience, advanced technology, and quality patient care. There are LASIK chain centers that offer laser vision correction without consideration to these important points. We take the time necessary to perform specialized diagnostic testing using 2 or 3 examinations prior to your surgery. This information, along with years of surgeon experience, is used to create a laser treatment plan to achieve your ultimate visual goal. This unique combination of experience and technology has provided the desired results for hundreds of patients.
Our goal is not to be the cheapest; our goal is to be the best. We offer our patients years of experience, advanced technology, and quality care to produce the best result possible. Many refractive surgery chains can offer LASIK and PRK for less, but for less money you can expect less in technology, service, and patient care. You owe yourself the peace of mind, confidence, and satisfaction that comes from knowing you have selected the best in technology and surgeon experience. Specific fees will be discussed with you on your consultation visit as well as any discounts that may apply. You may also use your Flex Spending Account for LASIK and PRK. Please check with your employer for details on the FSA. We also offer financing with low monthly payments through CareCredit and the Lebanon Federal Credit Union.
Most insurance carriers recognize laser vision correction as an elective/cosmetic procedure and will not cover the surgery. Some vision insurance plans do offer a discount off the fee, and although we currently do not participate with any carriers, we will match some discounts. Details concerning the fee can be discussed at your consultation appointment.
